Melbourne Cricket Ground

MCG
The hallowed turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground will play host to the most hotly anticipated match of the tournament where the T20 World Champion will be decided.
The MCG is more than just a sports venue, it’s an icon of Australian sport – a place where history unfolds, dreams come to life and memories are made. If you ask any Victorian, they’ll be aware of the ‘G and its status as the home of sport.
Established in 1853, less than 20 years after the city of Melbourne was founded, it has been the home of AFL since 1859 and was the birthplace of Test cricket in 1877.
It was the main stadium for the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games, regularly plays host to crowds of 100,000 people, and every Christmas welcomes masses of cricket fans for the Boxing Day Test. The MCG has hosted everything from the ICC Cricket World Cup final and AFL Grand Finals, to World Cup soccer qualifiers, the NRL State of Origin and concerts with some of the world’s biggest music artists – it has even welcomed a Papal visit.
